A Place For Dreaming, Erice Sicily

Since the beginning I have always been attracted to an atmosphere that creates a mood in my photographs. And this was true on my trip to Sicily. My hope was to have the opportunity to photograph in such conditions. The day we arrived in Erice, which is a High Medieval town on the northwest coast of Sicily, it was bright, cool, and sunny, which was a bit disappointing, because I was hoping for a more interesting atmosphere.

I woke before dawn to photograph. When I walked out the door, I stepped into a dream, a dense fog. After talking to people, I was told that it wasn’t a fog, but that the town was in the clouds. Clouds had rolled in overnight. Nothing could have satisfied my aspirations more than photographing in the clouds. That morning, I photographed one of my most exquisite series. “A Place For Dreaming” is one of those exquisite photographs.
