Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania began in 1887 as Compton; the summer home of the brother and sister, John and Lydia Morris, The land that John and Lydia Morris purchased in Chestnut Hill was barren, with poor soil that drained too quickly. But with diligent care they surrounded their home with a landscape and plant collection devoted to beauty and knowledge. Through the stewardship and vision of the Quaker family, in1932 Compton became the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, and is listed on The National Register of Historic Places.

Morris Arboretum, minutes from center City Philadelphia, is a unique natural setting with its stately buildings, lovely gardens and fountains, beautiful landscapes, stately trees, ponds, and lovely flowers in bloom. With all that It offers it is a photographer’s dream to have all this available during the photography class and walking tour.There is a limit of 12 people per group.
